Beyond Romance
Using the lovers’ eyes from the 19th century as a starting point, this piece explores the idea that romantic love is often seen as the only relevant form of love in traditional jewellery. This focus is questioned by highlighting that love between friends, family and others is equally significant. The work aims to shift attention away from the romantic and open space for multiple forms of connection. The piece consists of a brooch with eye-shaped outlines as its base, combined with interchangeable eye pieces. These eye pieces allow the wearer to choose who they want to keep close each day. They are multifunctional and can also be worn as ear studs.
